The Redistricting game is a game based around political ‘missions’. The job is to do the missions and keep the people and politicians happy. The democratic party I chose was Democrat. Mission 1: Population Equality (Basic) For the first district, I was given 4 districts, each district has different number in population.

Mission 1

My job in this mission was to create population equality. The requirements in this task were to have a population of about 640,000 and 650,000 people in each district. As a democrat population equality is greatly favored.

I was successful in passing the plan for the district. It had 64 yeas and 36 nays, and did in turn pass. I ran into some problems that one district could not go over another districts “house” which made it more difficult.

Mission 2

In this Mission my task is to keep the population at about 640,000 and 650,000. Also while having more democratic rule over the districts. Instead of two democratic and two republican there has to be three democratic districts and only one republican district.

I was successful in passing the mission because I did gain a third democratic district. It passed with 60 yeas and 40 nays. It was a little challenging because you had to make sure you got both tasks completed. The challenge was that the district sometimes would have more republicans than democrats.

Mission 3

The task in Mission 3 is to again keep the population between 640,000 and 650,000 people and to make each district have a 55% majority in the party it is in.

The results I got were successful. I made every district have a 54-55% majority in rule. It passed with 100 yeas and 0 nays, everyone was satisfied.

Mission 4

The job in Mission 4 is to add a new district with a majority of 65% of African Americans. While again keeping the population at about 640,000 and 650,000 people. Also, keeping the party at a majority for each district.

The new district plan did pass, successfully. The results were 100 yeas to 0 nays. I ran into some problems when I had the correct ethnicity in the district but not the population, which made it difficult. Another problem was with they parties, they were not satisfied with the majority rules, sometimes.

Mission 5

The task in mission 5 is to make each district into having a population 640,000 and 650,000. Also, keeping each district in a compact space.

The results were successful in passing. The plan got 3 yeas and 2 nays. The plan did not pass the State Legislature, but under the the Tanner Bill, it was passed. Difficulties I came across where that the districts were not as compact as they should be and it did take a while to complete this mission.

Mission 1- Advanced

My job in this job was to make each of the four districts to have a population of 640,000 and 650,000. This is the population equality.

I was successful in passing the plan with 64 yeas and 36 nays. The only difficulty I came across was that some districts had more people, therefore I had to balance out the populations.

Mission 2-Advanced

In this mission my job was to keep the districts population at about 640,000 and 650,000. Also, to make three democratic districts instead of the previous two.

I was successful in passing the plan for the districts, with 60 yeas and 40 nays. I had some difficulties with getting the population between 640,000 and 650,000 at the same time as having the democratic party rule over three districts.
